Its barely even still wednesday, but here's a WIP Wednesday post...
I've started working on a retro-ish desk clock / home assistant speaker.
Still early days, but hopefully the design will flesh out and end up useful and printable.
Once I get a bit further, I plan to print this out as a clock only at first to make sure I like looking at the design, then figure out how to squeeze the electronics in.
#FreeCAD is an incredibly powerful, #opensource, 3D modeling and design application available on #Linux, #Windows, and #MacOS. https://youtu.be/-Woz1q4iIKY
Managed to extricate some design files that I need from their proprietary autodesk fusion360 prison (which you can run under linux, but it's hellish) into lovely opensource #FreeCAD - but somewhere in the conversion a number of meshes have become non-manifold (like the light blue quad intersecting the shaft in this image) and it's going to be a pain to repair - but probably less unpleasant than trying to make fusion360 work for me.
Points to anyone that can identify the mechanism
Since my brother didn't like the wood look of the plastic, I use it for non artistic purposes
Model of the keyboard block in #FreeCAD and the printed one with PCBs installed. (I really need to switch to custom boards and stop soldering a bunch of wires) #3dprinting #electronics

The next release of #FreeCAD Parametric Web Viewer is shaping up to look great, it's awesome having some help on the frontend. But things are still going slower than I'd like, in part because we're both juggling multiple projects and jobs. If you want to see this in the world or find it useful, please consider kicking in for its development. As of now, 100% of donations will go to paying for the frontend development work.
A small replacement part for my bike lamp.
A bit difficult to create the "circular notch" for me.

First attempt of building #FreeCAD from sources ended at 50% of build. Failed due to lack of Coin3D include dir.
First patch done. And package built.

This may have something to do with a "redundant constraint", but I can't find out because #FREECAD ONLY TELLS ME THERE IS ONE & REFUSES TO LET ME FIND IT!!... there's a nice little number identifier, which seems great until you realize that the interface contains no way of finding or filtering restraints by their ID number - or if there is, I can't fucking find it...
Also, seriously, #FreeCAD, ur viewport weird sometimes & I can't find out how to fix it...
@lnlyisol :). I bought a cheap router to get my brain thinking about subtractive vs additive design approaches. I had trouble getting #FreeCad to generate sensible routing paths. I need to revisit that experiment. I wanted to crawl before I go laser but I can see the appeal of that approach. Will get there eventually.
My #FriendlyElec NanoPC-T6 got a stand.
Need to do some fixes to it so there is a chance to learn #freecad on a way.
I'm using my international radio on my Home Assistant Yellow for Thread so I added a Sonoff ZigBee dongle. I really hate large USB dongles hanging out the back of things, so I took the opportunity to finally learn FreeCAD and design a new top shell that could house that dongle internally. A few painful hours of trial and error, one U-Shaped USB extension, and one short antenna extension later and it's looking much cleaner! It is a shame I don't have a resin printer or know how to use one, because it would have been nice to keep the translucent plastic aesthetic. (an atomic purple shell would be so rad!) But I'm really happy with it overall.

My new test rack for #electrical stuff. The #wiring management combs behind the DIN rails and the strain relief plates at the bottom are 3d-printed. All designed in #FreeCAD and I will of course release the design files soon :)

I recently made my own macro "VarSetUpdate" and posted it in this comment : https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/issu ... 2754714033.
It looks like people are interested into using/modifying it, so what is the next step @FreeCAD ?
- Do I follow the FreeCAD macro guidelines available here (https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD-macros), publishing this macro in the official FreeCAD-macros repo ? (And if yes can I edit the wiki?)
- Or do I publish it on an independent repository?
