#Linux #GNOME #GDM

seriously though.
where does Mutter/ Budgie come from? it seems to be independent of the KDE/ Gnome universes.
I dunno. I feel like I see components from this or that, in that or this and it's keeping track. But does it matter.

I do know it matters when I'm messing around w/ the old #HDMI out on the #Funai #Magnavox thing from nineteen eighty 'fore.

Ubuntu Fixes Wi-Fi Connection Fail at Login Screen

Ubuntu users frustrated by the inability to connect to a new password-protected Wi-Fi network at the login screen will be pleased to know a fix is rolling out. This particular bug affects users of both Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 24.10. When trying to join a wireless network at the login screen (GDM) which requires a password, the password input prompt never appears and the connection fails. Why does—soon to be ‘did’—connecting to a wifi network at the Ubuntu login screen fail? Canonical software engineer (and the original bug reporter) Bartosz Woronicz explains: "The log-in screen [in Ubuntu] is implemented :sys_more_orange:

I've asked before, but does anyone know how to configure GDM/Gnome to ignore my monitors searching for Inputs? The OSD setting for the displays doesn't work (it has a setting that does nothing) and when all 3 of them start searching for inputs when Windows/Linux tries to turn off the displays, they end up sending some signal that Gnome/GDM interprets as input relevant to unsleeping the displays. So the displays can never turn off on their own, without my own manual intervention.

On their own, at best they end up on a black screen but on; With GDM/Gnome being unaware that the monitors are getting a signal as far as I can tell. (Some sort of race condition here maybe?)

Plugged in using DisplayPort to an EVGA RTX 3070 using the latest official nVidia Driver.

For those of you who read about my #Fedora and #GDM login issues, well yesterday I did a sudo dnf upgrade -y, which I always thought was the same as doing update -y, but evidently it installed and removed something important.I dunno what, by my system became super unstable, video was farked up the whole 9 yards.. So I did a fresh install of Fedora 42-beta, and so far stable as can be.

I think after 3 or 4upgrades in place, some cruft was left over causing problems. So clean install was needed.

To be consistent, the #gdm login screen would also have to follow the light or dark system theme. As I said before, I use light and dark themes based on how bright my surroundings are. And wow, it's super hard to see anything at all outside, in the sun, for example, on the dark #gnome login screen. 🤔 #linux

The current status of #fingerprint scanning via #fprintd in #GNOME & #GDM is so bad.

Fingerprint login doesn't unlock the keyring, so immediately after login, you get dialogs asking you to manually type your password to unlock them.

Might as well just not allow fingerprint login in GDM and only allow fingerprints to dismiss the lockscreen post-login.

Gnome / gdm greeter seems to be freezing (on animations) when trying to prompt my password, to reconnect to running session when coming back from screensaver... Debian stable. I'd like to submit bug report or contribute to diagnosis, etc. But where exactly lies the issue / which bts query to perform... gdm ?
Ctrl+Alt+F1 allows to login working around the freez issue, but still not satisfying
