Kira<p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/teaching" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>teaching</span></a> at an uni: <br />yesterday we had a power outage in the lab during a practical course. We checked everything twice, called supervisors, called an electrician. Then I noticed that one of the students had put a cable on a heating plate and it melted 🫠<br />They had the nerve to ask if that meant we wouldn&#39;t finish on time. <br />.<br />.<br />.<br /><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/PhDlife" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PhDlife</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/PhDstudent" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PhDstudent</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/lablife" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>lablife</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/academia" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>academia</span></a></p>

Kelsie<p>Mystery in the lab... So, I inoculated a Sabouraud Dextrose Agar plate with a moldy, gluten-free muffin for a microbiology lab. I was simply tired of the slightly boring bread mold. Well, this is what I got... two absolutely fascinating, completely different colonies. <br>The one with a filamentous form may be paenibacillus, and I have no idea what the other is. I believe it is a bacteria that released some pigments into the agar to make it so dark. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/lablife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lablife</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/microbiologymysteries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>microbiologymysteries</span></a></p>

Getzler Lab at KenyonCollege<p>I cannot explain quite how comforting it is to hear the nitrogen boiling from the traps in the Schlenk line while I watch boiling solvent being stripped from a reaction.
