My personal #1 necessity would be to do *absolutely everything* to pierce the *trump propaganda bubble* and force feed that horde facts about the "maga elite" and their dysfunction, grifting, 'ungodliness', the billionaires' dystopian agenda...

As long as that large segment of population remains captive this nightmare will continue.

The onus is on us all (especially for many of us in the #fediverse) to search for the truth during #AusElection25 and call out the lies, gaslighting and biased propaganda. We owe it to ourselves to know whom and what we will be voting for. The only way lowly peeps like me can do this is by supporting those truth-tellers with a heavier clout than I and #IndependentJournalism is where we mostly find out much of the truth behind our politician’s machinations. I cannot support all independent news platforms, just a couple. But if everyone of us supported just one independent news outlet (like we support our Masto Instances I hope…), the likes of #Murdoch and #Stokes would be that much less successful in brain washing the Austalian electorate by giving ‘air’ to political liars.

The author argues that the Murdoch news empire is being cannibalized by the forces Murdoch himself helped unleash, and that this empire is in decline not just in Australia but in the US and the UK too.
Much to think about here. I wonder whether similar forces are at work in countries beyond the English speaking world where moguls have used media power to push their right wing agendas; Bolloré and the late and unlamented ( at least by me) Berlusconi come to mind.

#Dutton ‘s agenda with regards to climate action and renewables is well known and documented. What I was alluding to in my toot is #PotatoHead ‘s dishonnesty. He doesn’t even bother disguising it… which says a lot for the mob who vote #LNP - More to the point, #CorporateMedia #Stokes and #Murdoch never point out the fact that the uber-hypocritical #Noaliation lies its arse off day in day out. The sooner the #LNP breaks apart into #Liberal (#IND) and #RWNJs (the rest) camps the better for Austrailan politics.

While I’m hopeful Labor will get another run in office, I am not sure of it. You’re right… the #Noalition campaign run by the #Murdoch and #Stokes machines is overwhelming Labor’s modest legislative progress because those #CorporateMedia outlets control the version of ‘news’ Australians get to see/hear/read.
I don’t know what the answer is to overcome the political slush that is drowning the electorate. Education? A slight interest in politics from your average Aussie voter? Less of a focus on what’s in it for me? Some empathy for the growing number of Aussies having a hard time putting food on the table and a roof over their head perhaps? All the usual things I normally think about when ‘thinking’ before ‘voting’.

Agree. It won’t out-market the #Murdoch and #Stokes #LNP propaganda machine anyway, so I welcome it too (though tbf, it’s preaching to the converted on a Mast instance and the Fediverse, righ?).
