I was waiting for the great spotted woodpecker to make his presence known, but suddenly the beetle was right next to me. I quickly changed the lens and missed the woodpecker for this pile shot . The spruce bark beetle (Hylobius abietis) grows up to 1.4 cm long and is mainly found in coniferous forests.

Eigentlich hab ich den Buntspecht aufgelauert, der sich bereits durch Laute bemerkbar machte, aber auf einmal war der Käfer neben mir. Schnell das Objektiv gewechselt und den Specht für dieses Stackfoto verpasst . Der Fichtenrüsselkäfer (Hylobius abietis) wird bis zu 1,4 cm lang und kommt vor allem in Nadelwäldern vor.
Captured this image of a banded guitarfish back in 2018 in the Sea of Cortez. This trip was jam-packed with awesome critters and I barely knew how to use my camera to capture them. Might be time for a return trip.
