"The NSW Labor Government took office promising to create a vast koala sanctuary on the state’s mid-north coast – the Great Koala National Park. Despite the threat of koala extinction in the state, more than a year later the Great Koala National Park is yet to be established.
Last year, NSW Premier Chris Minns' remarkable admission disclosed a further motive for the go-slow: the government is reluctant to create the new national park or end logging and land clearing that is destroying koala habitat until it secures another way to make money from the trees. In essence, it wants to exploit the forests for carbon credits."

"The Bellingen Environment Centre (BEC) has called on the Government to suspend all logging within the proposed Great Koala National Park as consultation for the Koala Park begins in Coffs Harbour."

“If logging is allowed to continue within the boundaries of the proposed Great Koala National Park, koalas and a large number of other critically threatened and endangered animals will suffer.”

"The National Parks Association NSW (NPA) has obtained video of a likely displaced koala barely 40m from the edge of a clearfelled logging coupe in Pine Creek State Forest within the proposed Great Koala National Park (GKNP).
Koala Hubs contain critical multi generational koala populations and their habitat. Logging of Koala Hubs within the proposed GKNP was suspended by the NSW Government last September, but unfortunately Koala Hubs in plantations were not included in the decision and continue to be logged."

Forestry Corp has started logging compartment 14 of the Pine Creek State Forest within the boundaries of the Great Koala National Park (GKNP).

"The compartment is bordered on three sides by Bongil Bongil National Park. It contains a ‘koala hub’ – the only interim government policy protection afforded koala in the GKNP."

"Fully 50-60% of every tree felled is ‘waste’ for Forestry’s purposes. Non target species such as casuarina (the primary food source of endangered glossy black cockatoo) is swept away as trash. All this is bulldozed into 3-meter high long windrows and burned. What are the CO2 losses from this practice one wonders."

Independent koala surveys of the forest and protect native forest remnants in Tuckers Nob State Forest needed.

"Dr Cadman said Tuckers Nob State Forest is inside the proposed GKNP, and has koalas and rainforest remnants containing Ringwood trees (aniseed myrtle) which only grow in the Nambucca, Kalang and Bellinger river valleys."
