As a nation, we in the US poured money into automobile infrastructure and suburban tract housing and now act like it's inevitable and natural for people to spend their lives driving.</p>

In Japan, pedestrians and cyclists can easily access the station and there are groceries, convenience stores, and restaurants and tons of bicycle parking by the station. In America there is a freeway interchange to a 4-lane divided highway surrounding the station.
