I’ve been sorting through some vintage DVD’s here, and found a funny TV series I’d totally forgotten about. “Sledge Hammer!” starring David Rasche as a mad Dirty Harry style cop.
After investigating a spate of serial murders of Elvis impersonators, the police discover yet another body and draw the obligatory chalk line round it…

𝘐𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴, 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦. Peter Gabriel - 'So'. 👁️👁️🌹💿 (19 May 1986)
‎ ‎ ‎
On his fourth album, Peter Gabriel improved the production quality compared to his earlier, rougher records and achieved a solid balance between uplifting pop songs (e.g. "Sledgehammer", "Big Time", "In Your Eyes") and introspective art rock tracks (e.g. "Red Rain", "Mercy Street", "That Voice Again"). This balance may be why it remains my favourite Peter Gabriel album. Even Kate Bush makes a guest appearance on the poignant duet "Don't Give Up". Furthermore, some of the music videos from this album, such as "Sledgehammer", were groundbreaking for their time. In fact, my first introduction to it was through my dad's DVD collection titled "Peter Gabriel - Play: The Videos" when I was a child. True, 'So' may sound less experimental than his first three albums, but the incorporation of elements from African and Brazilian music makes it experimental enough for fans, whilst still being the most accessible album in his catalogue for newcomers. Overall, 'So' is truly one of the best pop-oriented art rock albums of the '80s, which has barely aged, in my opinion, and also remains one of my favourite albums of all time, making it an obvious choice for my cherished collection. Now, who remembers the famous scene from the movie 'Say Anything' where John Cusack holds a boombox above his head whilst blasting "In Your Eyes"? Classic.
