The #Sun's surface. The #sunspot here is Active Region 4018 as seen yesterday through my #telescope. The granular texture is from the strong convective motion of the #solar #plasma, very much like the convective patterns we see in a pot of boiling water. #astrophotography

High magnification image of the sun's surface, covered with a granular pattern and a irregularly shaped dark sunspot. The sunspot has a very dark center surrounded with an "umbra" with tendril-like features. The sunspot has a diameter comparable to Earth's.

Two more images from the recording session on 30 august.
Each image is a mosaic composed by two panels.
The Ha filter was set up to be off-band around the 656.28 nm wavelength, on the +5 and -5 Å wings allowed by the Combo Quark. In addition, the gain was modified to according to the wavelength shift.
