For St. Louisans, March 14 is #314Day!
In celebration, I'm sharing a tiny tech time capsule — a collection of textfiles related to St. Louis-area #BBS networks!
I gathered these 30 years ago when I was cosysop of "Something in the Attic BBS" and seeking to attract more users.
Brace yourself for all manner of capitalization! (PIllowNet, SPORKnet, StupidNET)
Ending "z"s!
And lots of exclamation marks!
Here's the thing I made that WordPress lost its shit over. It's a study guide for the Salesforce admin exam I made myself (with the help of wifey for the cover). I'd written up a little something about it, but to hell with that. I wanted to make flash cards and wanted ALL the info in one place, which Salesforce doesn't provide in a decent manner. So here it is. Any help editing or formatting, go nuts.
These are the 7 files I printed to make this bad boy: https://drive.proton.me/urls/V4EHCTZVX0#QtneDpYea2UY
Lifehacker: Use This App Instead of Excel to Directly Edit CSV Files. “ModernCSV, an indie app for Linux, Mac, and Windows computers, is the best tool I’ve come across for this purpose. If you work with CSV files frequency, or just need to edit one quickly, it’s worth checking out. This application is built specifically with CSV files in mind and makes working with them simple.”
textfiles.com is a cool site. #textfiles
Saw something about using text files for notes instead of things like Word or Evernote or Notion. I don't use those apps, but I do end up putting things in Samsung Notes or Google Docs all the time, and those are ethereal. If I switch to a non-Samsung phone or ditch Google, they're gone.
I liked the idea of just plain text files in a local spot on my phone, I've always loved text files anyway. So I looked in the Play store, and sure enough, there's an app called txtpad+. I love it. Simple UI. You choose the location to save, and then make your files. Easy as hell.
Here it is on the Play store, it's free.

Adám Brudzewsky is now demonstrating how Dyalog 19.0 lets you initialise and launch applications directly from text files—no session or workspace files needed.
In my cabin, reasonably far away from civilization and with tacky reception.
All websites should have a text file alternative.

YouTube destroyed the internet.

Could anything give me more joy than this? Discmaster is the greatest, and every one of these improvements sounds awesome.
Do you have any examples of neat #textfiles formatting?
Not exactly talking about figlet/ANSI-style headings and logos, but headings, table frames, fleurons, dingbats etc.

For your convenience on how to use this website we've made this little film.
It's almost as dumb as...
If you want to know how to read this book you'd better listen to this cassette first.
@larsfrommars Here are more mostly free digital archives, some focusing on historical and ancient documents, and some on early digital age text documents. Some of the University archives may have some texts that are not free alongside their free collections. I have enjoyed reading from these and many other archives since the dawn of the Internet.

#Textfiles.com is such a #bizzare blast from the #past. To a point every time I find that site again (basically #remembering it exists ) and read through some of the #text files. It gives a bit of #nostalgia. While some of the stuff are wayyy beyond my time I've seen references to them in forums before.
It's a nice read through perse. It got directories/categories of #ASCII art to #stories to the most fun... The #Anarchy section. Just remember anything in the anarchy section is uhhh... Don't try the stuff listed.
The site in question:

Textfiles.com is an enormous collection of #textfiles from the 1980's, the dawn of modern computing history. "The focus is on mid-1980's textfiles and the world as it was then, but even these files are sometime retooled 1960s and 1970s works, and offshoots of this culture exist to this day."

I just make my entire life "#stupid #proof ", by designing everything so dead simple a toddler could use it.
That way I only need to remember a few things,
and the rest I put into #textfiles (codesnippets) or notes (thoughts, ideas )
Even if I wake up groggy or end up sleepless I can still perform well, as I put more thought, into simplifying stuff in the #future
TL;DR:
I put extra effort in today, so that "difficult thing" is easier in every future day
Time for my own #introduction post! Hi, I'm David!
I'm a UX/UI-focused software engineer with a focus on humane technology that *doesn't* eat the world. I've been on #javascript island lately, but in my 20-or-so years I've sailed around the whole archipelago (C/C++, Python, #lua, #golang). I'm a #parent, I'm a hobbyist #gamedev, I'm unhealthily obsessed with #notetaking and #textfiles and #journaling. I like #obsidian just fine but I miss #tiddlywiki. And my usual editor of choice is #neovim.
