The #UK Department for #Transport (DfT) sought to understand #data flows within cargo shipments to mitigate supply chain risks and enhance resilience. The Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE) developed a reusable methodology to map cargo system data, including third-party integrations, and identify vulnerabilities. Initially focused on airports, the methodology was designed to be applicable to road, rail, and maritime hubs. After a supplier call, Arup was chosen for its expertise, with a medium-sized airport as the pilot site. The project, led by DfT’s cyber arm, involved scoping data related to cargo flights, tracking sources, suppliers, and processes, and exploring cybersecurity lessons from other industries. The result was a standardised methodology covering data flow understanding, threat review, and risk mitigation, along with guidance for other teams. A show-and-tell session shared findings with DfT stakeholders, and next steps are under consideration.

'More than 1m cars sold in UK each year too big to fit typical parking space'

theguardian.com/environment/20

'Oliver Lord, the UK head of Clean Cities, said: “Cars are getting bigger every year – while our streets are not. We need carmakers to prioritise normal-sized cars that can be parked more easily and are less dangerous to people walking around. It’s only fair if you want to buy a massive SUV that you should expect to pay more for the space it takes up."'

#EU #Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas visited MAN Truck & Bus in Munich to discuss electrification, automation, and digitalisation in road freight. MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp welcomed the EU's action plan but called for faster expansion of charging infrastructure and a rethink of CO2 regulation, which could impose harsh penalties on manufacturers. MAN is committed to reducing emissions with a portfolio of electric trucks and buses. Since 2024, MAN has offered electric trucks with ranges of up to 800 km, saving 400 tonnes of CO2 with a fleet of 120 eTrucks. Vlaskamp emphasised the need for 50,000 charging points by 2030 to meet EU climate goals. MAN is part of a joint venture with Volvo and Daimler Truck to install 1,700 charging points by 2027. The company is also working on autonomous hub-to-hub transport, with a test permit for Level 4 autonomous trucks in Germany.
