It's only recently that I have learnt that the male platypus has venomous spurs on its hind legs. Apparently the pain that these spurs can inflict on a human is excruciating, long lasting, and resistant to common analgesics .

I feel disillusioned, as I had never thought of the platypus as a dangerous animal.

This article informed me of more characteristics that make the platypus such an extraordinary creature.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is warning about the presence of American Dagger Caterpillars after noticing them more in the Hill Country as of late. The "fuzzy little chartreuse thing" is the caterpillar of the Dagger Moth, which in contrast is "fairly innocuous," TPWD wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. The worm-like insects are completely covered in bright yellow-green bristles, along with bunches of black bristles that resemble long eyelashes.
