曾經憑《野火集》、《孩子你慢慢來》紅遍華文圈、做過馬英九政府文化部長的台灣作家龍應台，日前在《紐約時報》撰文《The Clock is Ticking for Taiwan》，指烏克蘭的經歷說明特朗普可能為與習近平達成協議拋棄台灣，台灣完全依賴美國「拒絕和對抗中國不再是一條可行的前進道路」，提出台灣保障自由的唯一途徑是「以某種方式與中國達成和解」。
近年屢被質疑親中的龍應台的文章引起台灣強烈反響，有人認為是「真知焯見」，但亦有大量留言批評她的論調只是經過包裝的投降，諷刺她經常引述不知真假的「計程車司機」等人的言論在國際社會代表台灣人，在文中引述的「非正式的民調」只是來自台灣 Dcard，龍應台已在她在人 fb 相關帖文停止了留言功能。
