Trump claims these charges could have been brought 2½ years ago, which gives rise to his attestation that they were timed to interfere with his reelection bid
However, Smith & #James claim it's taken this long, as they left no stone unturned to get him
@AnthonyFStevens I don't really know if they were dragging their feet at the start. I do know that now, the cases against him seem quite strong. He knew this was coming and can't weasel out of it because he decided to run for president.
Trust me, #Trump knew this was coming, hence his desperation to run for re-election as his only chance to avoid financial ruination & jail.
If he becomes President, he controls the executive & the Department of Justice, & can change the Attorney General & stop ALL federal cases against him.
HOWEVER, this doesn't extend to state charges & cases like those with his rape charge, the #NYC fraud charges & the election fraud charges in Georgia.
These cases still present peril for Trump.

This is why they've taken their time constructing all these cases.
Intriguingly, the #Florida defamation case against Michael #Cohen drew nationwide interest, because everything Cohen claimed in his congressional grilling, criminal trial, his two books & on his booming MeidasTouch YouTube channel would be put to Trump to refute.
If he takes the 5th, he knackers his own case. If he answers, he provides crucial evidence for all the other ongoing cases against him. Trump's snookered!
