Dear people who like to smell good. Your wish is a legitimate one, but please note that wearing perfume is one thing, carrying around you a whole atmosphere is another.

Lawsuits won't stop Meta. People should hold Zuckerberg accountable for the crimes he has done: force him to stop tracking at all or criminalize him!

@evelyn you know what's really magic? Plumbing! Imagine a city of several million people. each of whom shit into a toilet every day and flush it down the drain. And yet nobody is drowning in feces! They all just go somewhere!

Seriously, this is way more important than computers.

Hi, I've been around the Fediverse for some time now but never introduced myself.

I am a librarian from Cologne working on tools and projects around Linked Open Usable Data. I love the open, decentralized web and using/creating/maintaining free software. I also do some LIS teaching on IT topics.

I am tooting in English and in German but not frequently. I also toot for @lobid, @skohub and @swib.

"The trick is not becoming a writer. The trick is staying a writer."

One of the best feelings for a writer is when someone says "That's exactly how it was like/how it felt!" Have you ever been told that about your #writing? @amwriting

Readers, use the library instead of returning purchased books at Amazon. There are libraries in the US where you can buy a non resident digital library card, even outside the US. Libraries have Kindle books, eBooks, and audiobooks. #AmazonIsNotALibrary

Amazed out how many people responded to my "do not announce your intent to commit crimes" toot with variations of "even better, don't commit crimes at all!"

Look: not all laws are moral. The law can, AND FREQUENTLY HAS BEEN, used to oppress people. People who helped slaves escape to freedom were breaking the law. People who sheltered Jews and gays and Roma from Nazi genocide were breaking the law. Sometimes, there is nothing a moral person can do BUT break the law.

I'm not saying ALL laws are immoral. But if you cannot imagine ANY law ever being worth breaking, you either need to read some history, or you're comfortable living with oppression because you're confident it will only ever oppress other people.

And if it's the latter, I'm not particularly interested in your opinion.

What I'd like is a web app, as lightweight and static as possible, that lets me drop markdown notes into a folder, which it then compiles into a single page at scheduled intervals.

I'll make it if I have to, but if something like that is already available, then I'd be grateful if someone were to point me to it.

"What Slime Knows. There is no hierarchy in the web of life" fine article about "Superiority is not an inherent reality of the world." " might not have evolved much in the past two billion years, but it has learned a few things during that time. Researchers have cut polycephalum into pieces and found that it can fuse back together or, each piece can go off and live separate lives, learn new things, and return later to fuse together

I've been tentatively tooting for a few days now, so I guess it's about time I did my #introduction !

Hi everyone. I'm a #library #SysAdmin for a UK university by day.

Outside of work I spend far too much time tinkering with #Linux and a collection of #SBCs (mainly #RaspberryPi ), but like to get out to do some #photograhy (mainly landscape & nature).

What seems like a lifetime ago I studied #physics at uni (I have since forgotten most of it!) with a real interest in #cosmology. I do get outside some nights for #astronomy 🔭 but I'm mainly a fair weather astronomer these days.

Also into #SciFi :blobcatspace: , #classicalmusic :blobcatmusic: and #tea :blobcattea:

Oh, and I'm not actually a sentient teapot!

Look forward to tooting with you! :blobcathug:

Dies Irae!

Apparently it's the four notes of loom, uh beg pardon: of wrath. I actually think this melody can sound quite triumphant. Even gleeful.
I bet that I'll hear this now everywhere.
