D_70WN 🌈 🏳️‍⚧️<p>The hardware was refurbished, including a quick analysis of the equipment. I quickly realized that modern and up-to-date network firewall firmware could be installed on both devices without much effort and high costs. Since <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/BSDRP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BSDRP</span></a> , <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/OPNSense" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OPNSense</span></a> and <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/pfSense" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pfSense</span></a> no longer support x86 (i586/i686) architectures, the choice fell on the current <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/OpenWrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWrt</span></a> and <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/DDWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DDWRT</span></a> versions for x86 (i586/i686) architectures. 2/3</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Cybersecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cybersecurity</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/OTSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OTSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/ICS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ICS</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/OT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OT</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Network" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Network</span></a></p>
RAMΞNJVNKIΞ🍜<p>I have wasted the entire afternoon trying to get this <a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/DDWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DDWRT</span></a> to work as a secondary Router behind my ISP firewall.</p><p>I got extremely close, but it seems like the last hurdle was that the ISP firewall DHCP was overriding the DHCP of the DD-WRT.</p><p>Like, things all connected via the DD-WRT, at a 192.168.1.x range, and they might work briefly, but then the ISP firewall, which should be behind the DD-WRT firewall, was tossing out 172.16.x.x addresses.</p><p>I really hate how limited this ISP firewall is.</p>

Yann Büchau :nixos:<p>Finally replaced the crappy O2 router with a refurbished FritzBox 7490. No network bullshit anymore, unrecognized hostnames etc. anymore. And eventually I can put <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ddwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ddwrt</span></a> or <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/openwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openwrt</span></a> on it if I so desire.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a></p>
myrmepropagandist<p>A decade ago I modified a standard US 110V wall outlet so that it contained a hidden wifi hotspot. Thus, using <a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/ddwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ddwrt</span></a> open source software for routers, I could create a low bandwidth wifi-network that reached the basement of my 6-story building. </p><p>I wanted to know when the clothes dryer was done. But, it was more than that—</p><p>The other possible solution was to buy a SIM card and make the monitor a cellular device. This (I want to stress) was over a decade ago 2009. </p><p>1/2</p>
yesfreenet<p>Ставил DD-WRT, на старенький TP-Link.<br>Работает, настроил раздачу как ретранслятора. Но фактически там есть реальный клиент и виртуальная точка доступа.<br>Для того, чтобы всё сработало, надо было выставить все галки на WPA и со стороны шифрования, AES и TKIP </p><p>Установка простая была, через меню обновления в штатной прошивке.<br>Будем развлекаться</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ml/tags/%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%83%D1%82%D0%B5%D1%80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>роутер</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ml/tags/ddwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ddwrt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ml/tags/tplink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tplink</span></a></p>

nickelson<p>I was able to restore it back to operational state, hooray! 🥳 </p><p>Steps:</p><p>1. Flashed <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ddwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ddwrt</span></a> on top of it based on these instructions: <a href="https://youtu.be/gmn6Di3GbZM" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/gmn6Di3GbZM</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>2. Since no webrevert file is available for my model I used the one for different model (tl-wr941nd_v2_v3), which successfully bricked the device 🤓 </p><p>3. Then I have restored it with the original firmware using TFTP with these instructions: <a href="https://milankragujevic.com/restore-a-bricked-tp-link-router-with-tftp" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">milankragujevic.com/restore-a-</span><span class="invisible">bricked-tp-link-router-with-tftp</span></a></p><p>Now I have no more openwrt but I have my 4G back 😌</p>

Drew Naylor<p>Something I pride myself on is that my router usually can stay up until it starts having issues and needs to be rebooted, we lose power, or I reboot it for whatever reason. It having so many issues with Shortcut Forwarding Engine after updating it recently made me sad. This router will have been here for a decade in at least a few months or so and I bought it specifically so I could run DD-WRT. Long uptime isn&#39;t inherently good, but it being able to be long makes me feel good.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/routers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>routers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/DDWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DDWRT</span></a></p>
Drew Naylor<p>I think I got the router to stop rebooting by turning off the Shortcut Forwarding Engine. More recent threads in the DD-WRT forums mentioned it was still an issue.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/DDWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DDWRT</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/routers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>routers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ShortcutForwardingEngine" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ShortcutForwardingEngine</span></a></p>
Drew Naylor<p>Even though I like DD-WRT, the unreliability of updating it by having to do trial and error with finding good builds and having it still work ok makes me want to just install <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/OpenWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OpenWRT</span></a> instead.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/DDWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DDWRT</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/routers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>routers</span></a></p>
