<br>Een historische familiegeschiedenis, door Jan de Lint.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/boek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>boek</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob_Oost<p>"Dwars!"

christophwarner<p>Just finished the REVENGE of the TIPPING POINT by Macolm Gladwell. It's really interesting in the context of our current political climate but also around things as facetious as Linux on the Desktop or Artificial intelligence. It's hard to observe and participate in some of these group-think related tipping points while also trying to be introspective without feeling as if you are part of the problem. Or worse, becoming apathetic or putting your hands over your ears and pretending everything is fine.</p><p>His end quote has rung a bell in me however, "The tools necessary to control an epidemic are sitting on the table, right in front of us. We can let the unscrupulous take them. Or we can pick them up ourselves, and use them to build a better world". Sometimes, those of us with the abilities or talent or voice just need someone to remind us it seems.</p><p>Tipping points are fabricated, engineered, built and that's OUR lane. </p><p><a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/tippingpoint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tippingpoint</span></a> <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/MalcomGladwell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MalcomGladwell</span></a> <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Lars Folkestad<p>I read through my ears the Asako Yuzuki book ‘Butter’. A psychological thriller that tackles many aspects of modern life - from body image and expectations and women’s rights and anticipations towards women in society. I think it was a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/booksky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>booksky</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob_Oost<p>"The arctic grail" by Pierre Berton describes arctic exploration and explorers in the Quest for the Northwest Passage and The North Pole, 1818-1909, from Perry to Peary.<br>An interesting arctic overview, connecting many of the arctic travel books I read in the past. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob_Oost<p>"Nexus" by Yuval Noah Harari deals with information networks and their role in human cooperation, organised centrally or decentralised, focusing on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> towards the final chapters. A <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a>, but not as insightful as I expected. Still, a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> I'd recommend to everyone in these times of quick and disturbing developments.</p>
Lars Folkestad<p>I read this very lovely little book. Its a love story about food and everything we associate with a good meal. It’s a collection of short stories staring a lovely father and daughter combo. Its a fun, touching and extremely detailed <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob_Oost<p>"The Salt Roads" deals with the fishing industry and its impact on (mainly) the Shetland and Faroe Islands. The history and development of these islands has gone hand in hand with the haaf, cod and herrings fishing.<br>Now I want to visit the Shetland, Orkney and Faroe Islands even more than before...</p><p>An interesting book by John Goodlad.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob_Oost<p>"Remarkably Bright Creatures" rarely refers to humans in these confusing times...In this book, it mainly refers to Marcellus, a giant pacific octopus, who is an unlikely narrator in this highly original book by Shelby Van Pelt-recommended. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob_Oost<p>Anecdotes about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Antarctic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Antarctic</span></a> science, the scientists involved, the impact the continent has on the entire world, and the inevitable heroic, historical stories that go with it.<br>A fascinating book, simply called "Antarctica", by Gabrielle Walker.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/goodread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>goodread</span></a></p>
Rob Lesher<p>What would you do if you found out that your mother was writing to a notorious serial killer for years.
