Douglas E. WelchThe act of being together by Jose Dávila Panorama, Desert X 2025, Coachella Valley, California Material density, gravity, and time are central to most of Jose Dávila’s practice. Known for sculptures that explore different balances created by opposing forces, Dávila has created a work for Desert X 2025 that spans both space and time. The marble blocks used in this piece are unaltered extractions from a quarry a few hundred miles across the U.S.–Mexico border. Curious as to how this displays.

A very long vertical image. We are on a hill looking down on a picturesque village along the ocean. The lighting is coming from the left, behind us, and is bathing the scene in a pink glow. There is a soft mist. The water is calm, slightly left of middle is a church steeple. We can see islands off the shore and between us and the homes are black oak, wild rose bushes and other green shrubbery.

Seealpsee view near Oberstdorf by Wim van de Meerendonk, back home!

A year ago I was hiking in the German Alps. I took the cable lift up to the Nebelhorn and had a wonderful time.

At an altitude of 2000 meters, temperatures were around 21 degrees Celsius, the sun was shining and shorts and t-shirt were enough. I walked to the rim where you could see the Seealpsee, and because it looked so inviting I walked all the way down.

Earlier I already posted this shot <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/53403204664/in/dateposted">www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/53403204664/in/datepo...</a>. Were there a lot of people around the top of the cable lift, 15 minutes walking further, no one was to be seen anymore, so I enjoyed this wonderful view of the mountains behind the Seealpsee on my own.
