cmars<p>This weekend wraps a replatforming of the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/stigmerge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>stigmerge</span></a> CLI onto a high level <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/filesharing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>filesharing</span></a> API. A necessary step towards a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Transmission" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Transmission</span></a> like interface. Experimenting with <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/tauri" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tauri</span></a> now.</p><p>A few bug fixes happened as well :)</p><p><a href="https://github.com/cmars/stigmerge/releases/tag/stigmerge-v0.5.7" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/cmars/stigmerge/rel</span><span class="invisible">eases/tag/stigmerge-v0.5.7</span></a></p><p>Need to fix <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/rust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rust</span></a> docs.rs, they're not building yet 🤦</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>veilid</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/p2p" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>p2p</span></a></p>
cmars<p>Some exciting <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/stigmerge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>stigmerge</span></a> updates to share!</p><p>All stigmerge peers are now seeders -- there are no <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/leechers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>leechers</span></a> in official stigmerge releases. Sharing is caring! <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>veilid</span></a> private routing mitigates the privacy hazards normally associated with sharing content over public networks directly.</p><p>Peers gossip with each other _constantly_, advertising themselves and discovering new neighbors -- and they store these contact lists in the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>veilid</span></a> DHT like a pheromone trail. So even when an original seeder is long gone and goes offline -- if just one of its last-known neighbors is online, future travelers still have a chance to join a live swarm of active peers.</p><p>Fetchers can balance downloads among multiple peers, gravitating towards the most productive ones.</p><p>It's also super-easy to run stigmerge from an OCI container now (<a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Docker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Docker</span></a> or <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Podman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Podman</span></a> as you like).</p><p>Check out the updated README for more details -- and the 0.5.6 release to try these new superpowers out for yourself!</p><p><a href="https://github.com/cmars/stigmerge" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/cmars/stigmerge</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br><a href="https://github.com/cmars/stigmerge/releases/tag/stigmerge-v0.5.6" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/cmars/stigmerge/rel</span><span class="invisible">eases/tag/stigmerge-v0.5.6</span></a></p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/filesharing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>filesharing</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/p2p" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>p2p</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/anonymity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>anonymity</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a></p>

Alexander Burger<p>Very frustrating! Since 2023 I'm eager to experiment with <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Veilid</span></a>, but I hate Discord, and I hate Rust. The IRC channel at libera.chat and Veilid profiles on Mastodon are dead. There is no native C API, and there is no RPC API reference! veilid-cli seems unusable via command line args and/or pipes. Why is <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Veilid</span></a> so developer-unfriendly?</p>

katzenberger<p>Are there any chances that something like a <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Veilid</span></a> ecosystem of useful apps is about to emerge? Or is everybody still busy with infrastructure and infrastructure demos?</p>
Bill<p>Hey, will you looklie there! The <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Veilid</span></a> fundraiser was a success, and I'll be sporting a new hat at my next con.</p>

All shared data is encrypted end to end and stored in the network of <a href="https://floss.social/tags/veilid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>veilid</span></a> nodes.<br>If you have ideas or feedback for <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://floss.social/@coagulate" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>coagulate</span></a></span>, please do share :)</p>

Or do we both need to have our (in this case) Coagulate app open simultaneously in order to sync contact information (or location information, as the case may be)?</p><p>Same question I guess for <a href="https://corteximplant.com/tags/VeilidChat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VeilidChat</span></a>; If someone sends a message and then closes the app, and then the recipient opens their app, will the message show up?</p><p>One day I'll get around to understanding how Veilid works, but in the interim I'm going to lean on the fediverse </p>
THE Matt<p>You know that time you saw a truly beautiful person? That mixture of awe and appreciation and only a vague comprehension of the image before you?
