What is a good, full image backup that will run on Windows and Debian-based Linux? </p><p>My current thought is that I will turn my machine fully into a Linux Mint one with no Dual boot. <em>But.</em> I still want a 100% backup of my current machine in case I fuck things up. Something that I can load and it will fully replace my "C:" / "/sda1" with what is saved.</p><p>Like, I install Linux Mint, and something isn't working right. For me it was last night after I accidentally deleted my digital music collection.<br>Regardless of which operating system is used loss of data can have consequences that a good <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Backup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Backup</span></a> can save you from.<br>A music collection may not seem important but I'm an old fart and a lot of my collection started life on vinyl or CDs that I no longer have. Replacing it from scratch would take hours of ripping CDs and cost money and time buying digital copies.<br>Now imagine something similar happening to your data.</p><p>Fortunately years of working in various IT support roles has shown me the importance of backing up data. Chris Hessert 🐧 🇺🇦<p>Microsoft support for Windows 10 ends in October 2025, to my understanding.</p><p>I keep two (2) Windows 10 virtual machines running under VirtualBox (one on Linux, one on MacOS) so I can continue to use toy train track planning software I purchased many years ago.
