DesertFOXIm Jahre 1999 veröffentlichte Microsoft einen Haufen kritischer Jahr-2000 Updates und Patches für ihre Software. Aus heutiger Sicht wichtig war v.a. auch der fehlerbereinigte Datei-Manager WINFILE.EXE unter Windows 3.1 und WfW 3.11, der so angepasst auch 2025 noch problemlos funktionert.Da ich hierfür endlich auch eine richtige physische Quelle haben wollte, hab ich mir nun mal die offizielle Microsoft Jahr 2000 Ressourcen CD besorgt. Et étant dans l’informatique, nous étions scrutés : qu’allait-il se passer ? Les avions allaient-ils tomber du ciel ? Les téléphones se mettre tous à sonner ou au contraire tomber en sommeil profond ? Le monde que nous connaissions allait-il finir ?Nous nous préparions au fameux « bug de l’an 2000 », comme les médias l’appelaient, depuis plus d’un an. De quoi s’agissait-il ? Tous ces vieux systèmes informatiques utilisant un codage de la date qui n’avait pas forcément prévu de passer le siècle. Et pour cause : certains avaient déjà à l’époque plus de vingt ans, ce qui dans le domaine de l’informatique est énorme. Il avait donc fallu tout regarder, déjà connaître les systèmes utilisés, puis rentrer dedans (avec certains mal ou pas documentés, sur des technologies que les nouveaux ne connaissaient plus). Et avec plein de consultants qui ont pu faire un peu leur beurre.L’ambiance au bureau était bonne, tout le monde ou presque était réquisitionné mais finalement content et excité d’être là, et vers 23h30 la tension montait… Modérément cependant, l’Australie nous avait juste précédé et ils semblaient toujours vivants. In fine, quand la minute fatidique passa, ce fut un non-évènement, et le soulagement fut palpable : les Japonais prennent leur devoir professionnel très au sérieux. Nous pûmes rassurer les suivants sur la liste des fuseaux horaires, et tout se passa finalement bien.Un évènement artificiel pour l’Humanité (car ce passage à l’an 2000 n’est qu’une convention applicable à notre calendrier grégorien) mais qui aurait pu avoir des conséquences physiques importantes, du fait de notre dépendance déjà à l’informatique (mais plus forte encore aujourd’hui). Et il ne s’est finalement rien passé de notable. Avait-on gaspillé toute cette énergie de préparation au pire ? Ou bien était-ce justement parce que cette énergie a été mise que l’on a évité les problèmes ? Je ne sais pas répondre exactement, et les analyses divergent.Ce qui est sûr, c’est que certains des systèmes qui nous inquiétaient alors sont toujours en service aujourd’hui… On appelle ça la dette technique, ça coûte cher mais on a vraiment du mal à s’en débarrasser.
