schamspeare<p>Though it’s by no means a blockbuster release, though it was meant to be one film, and though there isn’t much in the way of special features, Criterion is of course taking the opportunity to charge for the price of two blurays. This company is so fucking greedy. They deserve to go under. </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/criterion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>criterion</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/cinemastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cinemastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/physicalmedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>physicalmedia</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/bluray" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluray</span></a></p>
schamspeare<p>Were there really people in the world who were crying out for this? What a weird release. So unaccountable that it almost makes me want to get it. Maybe that’s what they’re counting on — suckers and curiosity seekers.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/criterion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>criterion</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/cinemastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cinemastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/physicalmedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>physicalmedia</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/bluray" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluray</span></a></p>

ThomasTonight’s <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/movienight?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#movienight</a> was Mike Leigh’s 1992 <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/film?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#film</a> NAKED starring David Thewlis. Had seen it once before. Did not truly appreciate it like I do now. Thewlis’ performance may be one of the greatest of all time. A nihilistic dreamscape of post-Thatcher London with the aimlessness and uncertainty of the new millennium up ahead. Brutally dark but somehow also laugh out loud funny. Happy I got this BFI restoration blu-ray as opposed to the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/criterion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#criterion</a> edition.<br> <br> Photo taken with iphone 16 pro max.
Extinction Studies<p>I spent the day with friends doing stupid things. Eating mostly. </p><p>I'm now watching Barcelona (1994), directed by Whit Stillman, the last in the Criterion box set. His main characters are all toxic in one way or another. All misrepresenting themselves and each other. Dishonest. And still we are asked to have empathy for them, and so we do. </p><p><a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/film" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>film</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/physicalmedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>physicalmedia</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/criterion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>criterion</span></a></p><p><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona_(film)" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelon</span><span class="invisible">a_(film)</span></a></p>

Extinction Studies<p>I've decided I have time and attention to watch Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (1990), eight vignettes based on actual dreams the director had. It stars Akira Terao, Martin Scorsese, Chishū Ryū, Mieko Harada and Mitsuko Baisho.
