🕶️ A view of its user interface (v.202500303, on my Linux PC) with the game Dune 2000 (a re-implementation of the game/book of the same name, set on the planet Arrakis) in progress (for the screenshot, I didn't concentrate much on the game): after only 5min of play I've run out of electricity (I should have built more windmills) and I'm attacked (at the top of the screen) by the AI (2 min later I've lost :)).

📚️ OpenRA is a set of libre, multi-platform, and improved, remakes of the RTS Command & Conquer 1 (C&C Tiberian Dawn), C&C Red Alert 1, Dune 2000 (D2K) and C&C Tiberian Sun (under development), with which they are compatible, but without requiring their data (recreated content). Without trying to be a perfect copy of the originals, they offer the original experience combined with modern improvements (flexible and multi-platform engine, integrated online / LAN game management, content download, widescreen support, fog of war, building capture, unit improvement, ...).

The objective is to faithfully reproduce the functioning of arcade games and systems in order to preserve the history of video games and thus avoid that certain titles sink into oblivion. It has a graphical interface and can work in command line. The content is huge (several tens of thousands of games) and of very high quality. 📚️ Race Into Space is a libre, turn-based strategy and space program simulation game, whose objective is to be the first team (USA or Soviet Union) to conduct a Lunar landing. This is a former commercial game released (by its developers, the Strategic Visions studio - Michael McCarty, aka mkmccarty, originally published by Interplay in 1993 and 1994, under the name “Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space” aka BARIS) adapted from Fritz Bronner's Liftoff! board game. The project was subsequently improved (bug fixes, simplifications to reduce difficulty, porting to modern hardware, etc.). Each player controls a space center, which also serves as a navigation menu, and directs funds towards the purchase of equipment, research and development, astronaut recruitment and training, and launches. The objective is to successfully complete a manned lunar landing by completing a series of milestones to ensure success. The historical stages of the game range from the launch of a satellite, like Sputnik 1, to the completion of a lunar orbital mission, like Apollo 8.

🕶️ An FPS view with the libre Freedoom 2 dataset + Brutal Doom v.2.1 mod + Zandronum v.3.1. I'm facing a Zombieman, while in the distance an Imp is firing at me.

📚️ Zandronum (contraction of ZDoom, Andromeda and Infernum, ex Skulltag!) is a libre, multi-platform Doom 1 and 2 engine, geared towards multiplayer gaming (up to 64 players). It offers a wide range of game modes and modifiers (Instagib, Buckshot, ...), and is compatible with Heretic, Hexen & Strife games, as well as with the many GZDoom mods and Skulltag mods from which it originates. I'm trying to make a _good_ .deb package.

Yet I'm having a hard time finding a blog post where someone explain their experience going from bare minimum to a fairly advanced package with multiple stuff going pre and post install.

By _good_ I also mean something that helps understanding the why some packager use /etc/default/xyz and /etc/xyz/ yet some never use /etc/default .

Any pointers ?

📚️ The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is an open-world action RPG game, in which the player performs various quests proposed by NPCs in the eponymous country (and more precisely on the 24 km² Vvardenfell island) and is brought to meet many creatures. OpenMW is a libre, multi-platform and mature single player engine, compatible with its data, in order to extend its possibilities (multi-platform, recent hardware support, better graphics, physics, ...) and to make it possible to modify / add additional content (official or not).
