Jiří Eischmann<p>I really like the backup function in <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/GrapheneOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrapheneOS</span></a> based on <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Seedvault" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Seedvault</span></a>. I know it doesn't work 100%, some apps don't support it etc. But in my case >90% of apps get backed up and restored.</p><p>This is what all Androids should have. I understand <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> doesn't want to do it because for them <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> is just a gateway to their services and when you have all your data in their cloud, you don't need such backups. But other Android vendors should have it.</p>

But I'm thrilled. Everything is running. I had to set up a <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/ntfy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ntfy</span></a> server (hello <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/uberspace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>uberspace</span></a>) so <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/moshidon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>moshidon</span></a> (<a href="https://chaos.social/tags/fdroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fdroid</span></a>) pushes, but that's not bad.<br>I know there are even freer <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/androids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>androids</span></a> out there, but for me it's a mix of privacy, simplicity and a whole lot of good feeling.<br>Also important: it has to run on the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/fairphone5" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fairphone5</span></a>, because I specifically bought it for sustainability.</p>

But "Messaging", the default SMS/MMS texting app, didn't back up (see image).</p><p>A while ago I downloaded the Fossify Message App from f-droid, but haven't used it (note "Messages" app in image). But I'm thinking perhaps this would be better. Is anyone here currently using it? Codeschubse, Sith<p>How do I restore my phone with a <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/seedvault" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>seedvault</span></a> backup? So far the ONLY opportunity I encountered was after factory reset but before setup, at which point, of course, the necessary link to my cloud is not yet established. After setup and establishing the connection to my cloud it's gone for good.</p><p>What's the use in providing a method for backup/restoration, if you never may use it, because you HAVE to use it BEFORE you CAN use it. This is doing me a bamboozle. :pikaconfused:</p>
