Marc Carson<p>So, mobile devices now have: Crash detection, disaster alerts, satellite SOS, quick emergency dial. Now, we see AI & image detection, too. This makes me wonder:</p><p>How many years until your device will be able to end a physical altercation, or defend you in a physical attack? </p><p>Against animal, human, ...bot? ...drone?</p><p>What will the mechanism(s) be? Cave brain says "typical physical weaponry" of course, but what else, or what creative combination might do it?</p><p>Or, will the device decide what the mechanism of defense will be, based on its physical orientation to the activities at hand, and the type of confrontation it can sense?</p><p>What would a false-positive look like??</p><p>Consider, also: It has been decades since we saw a meaningful disruption in self-defense tech.</p><p>So, there has been a massive regression from the mean, in math terms. </p><p>What will it look like when that rubber band metaphorically snaps back into place?</p><p>Would you pay extra for a device for a family member, that could meaningfully improve their chances of surviving a dangerous situation? (Or would you wait until it's standard?)</p><p>Hmm?</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/iOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iOS</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/iPhone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iPhone</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/GooglePixel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GooglePixel</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/SamsungGalaxy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SamsungGalaxy</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/GalaxyPhone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GalaxyPhone</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/MobileDevices" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MobileDevices</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/MobileLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MobileLinux</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/SelfDefence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfDefence</span></a></p>
