No one alive will experience a better climate than we have today. But young people will experience a much more dangerous and chaotic world in the future, and the extent to which that happens will depend on our choices today. Trump and many of his enablers don't care because they're old and they're sociopaths.
@davidho Please stop this 'generations against one another' narrative. It doesn't help to build #resistance in #unity. The evil guys behind puppet Trump are quite young. In Germany, at this moment, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrate against the far-right, many actions organised by Grandmas Against Right! At the same time, first voters embrace the fascists. We can fight fascism only with all generations united! It's a problem of ideology, not generation.
For a lot of reasons "young vs. old" is a toxic framing when talking about climate catastrophe.
One reason is, that voting doesn't work as "I support the candidate who will take care that the climate will be good for me when I'm at a certain age."
@footils It's similar in Europe. Well, I work beyond the statistics in a French heritage centre with people aged between 4 and 94. We integrate *everyone* because the generations have a lot to teach each other.
The very young are always amazed when they learn from the very old how to repair things or how a circular economy was practised at the beginning of the 20th century. The children teach us adults what is important to them and how they imagine the future. So much good comes 1/2
@footils 2/2 from this exchange. We have more of a problem with young parents who drive their toddlers in SUVs and don't take part in our ecology workshops.
And for history: My generation still worked with eyewitnesses of the Holocaust and the Resistance. We *know* what happens under fascism. The world situation makes us angry, renitent, we fight. And we need *everybody* for that fight, no matter how old.
