1. Reduce your apps to the minimum required
2. Turn off location services, unless you're using that app
3. Turn off notifications
4. Turn off Bluetooth
5. Turn off Siri in ALL instances
6. Disable any app "reporting" features, including back to Apple
7. Use Firefox as your default browser
8. Remove all Google & Microsoft apps
...
Off the top of my head: I'm sure others will have a lot to add.
@chessert That's good advice! Thank you for making the list! :)
Not just my advice: that's what I do. I'm an Apple iOS/MacOS/Linux user by informed choice.
One point:
When tested with https://BrowserLeaks.com or https://CoverYourTracks.eff.org
Safari outperforms Firefox when it comes to anonymity and privacy.
Firefox has a permanent unique fingerprint, which makes it easy to track.
Safari also has a unique fingerprint, but unlike Firefox, when you clear Safari’s browsing data (history/cookies), the fingerprint changes; so each of your browsing sessions can look like a different identity.
Thank you: very good to know! But to be honest, I don't do much browsing at all off my mobile devices.
Likewise.
PS, if you use MacOS, I recommend checking out the Mullvad Browser. Built by the Tor team and Mullvad VPN, it’s the most private and anonymous browser for Apple devices. It’s built on Mozilla, it’s lightning fast and has many privacy and security features built into its core functionality (tab sandboxing, letterboxing, etc).
Thank you! I enjoy learning new things, and this is new to me.
I only learned about fingerprinting around two years ago. Apparently, it’s the most common way to track activity online, and there isn’t one tool that can protect internet users from fingerprinting.
Cover Your Tracks by EFF has great resources on this topic, and the Mullvad Browser website also goes into detail about how it works from a browser perspective.
@RaffKarva
That is a very important point to consider- definitely something to always keep in the back of your mind while using your browser!
@chessert
@chessert @madeindex I would say use DuckDuckGo as your default browser. Been using it as default on my old iPhone 12 Pro and it's great.
