I'm thankful to the @guardian for its work mapping police violence:
US police use force on 300,000 people a year, with numbers rising since George Floyd: ‘relentless violence’

@jeffjarvis @martinvermeer People get mad at me for still saying “defund the police,” but funding the police means funding this, which is worse than it was since people started saying “defund the police.”
@MisuseCase @jeffjarvis @martinvermeer
Where's the study of how many people react violently to the police, who have shown up because they were called by a citizen for a legitimate reason?
Defund the police? Are you ready to defend yourself in an armed robbery? What is your plan if your wallet is stolen/apartment broken into/car stolen? Do you really want a bunch of minimum wage yahoos with guns and no training answering your call for help?
sheesh.
@SueDiOh @jeffjarvis @martinvermeer >> Do you really want a bunch of minimum wage yahoos with guns and no training answering your call for help?
As opposed to overpaid yahoos?
@MisuseCase @jeffjarvis @martinvermeer As opposed to well-funded departments with adequate training. Higher salaries attract better applicants.
@SueDiOh @jeffjarvis @martinvermeer Better yahoos?
@MisuseCase @jeffjarvis @martinvermeer
If you think cops are overpaid you don't know any cops.
If you want better teachers in your school district, do you offer less money, or more?
@SueDiOh @MisuseCase @jeffjarvis @martinvermeer defund the police has nothing to do with paying them less.
This account is pure propaganda
