Steps of organizing childcare because some academic work event is outside daycare hours, a thread: #academicparenting #academicparents #momademia @academicsunite
1. Prioritize events I really need to participate in weeks and months in advance.
2.Clarify funding source and provider (again, because rules keep changing)
3. Email family office
4. Email event organizer about relevant details (online, offline, would they be able to provide help etc.)
5. Email family office again with justification why this event is relevant (hoping the justification is precise enough to be accepted, yet vague enough to be understood by someone who has no idea what my research is about) This is where I am at now.
6. Fill out form.
7. Send form to family office
8. Receive form again and contact childcare provider on the phone
9. Wait for them to call back
10. Wait for the actual baby sitter to get in touch to make a get-to know each other appointment.
11. After that, the actual event draws near, I prepare everything for the babysitter and hope for the best (no sickness etc.)
I know i should be grateful that some support will probably be available, but the hoops we nbeed to jump through took me all morning so far...
