First, I thought that I couldn't write fiction anymore because #reality gets crazy. Sometimes, I invent #SciFi plots just for fun, without writing. But now reality gets even weirder. I think that's the plan: We don't believe them. So, they install their #dystopic #apocalypse system while we still laugh about that insanity: https://www.wired.com/story/startup-nations-donald-trump-legislation/ (it's also archived).
@RealGene I only read the text yet ... but thanks to the bears!
I bookmarked the episode for later, thanks!
@enriquericos At the moment, I can hardly keep up with how reality is outstripping itself almost daily. It reminds me a little of the networks of fascists and evangelicals that are taking over entire villages in France and Germany, but that's nothing in comparison because we don't have a lawless space. (And not enough bears).
@NatureMC Since the day I read the first book in the Zoey Ashe series, I've been dreading this, and puzzled at how it isn't real yet. I mean, some cryptobros tried and failed instantly, but sooner or later it has to succeed, at least for a while, until the "city" collapses, I hope.
Pargin isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like how he saw all of this coming, and the cover artworks on his books are amazing
@NatureMC Personally I think it is so they have legal structure to punish "blue" cities while protecting cities the admin approves of.
Don't want ICE stealing people off the street? Buy protection by passing these laws!
@sewblue I have no idea! To be honest: I read something like this here in Europe with my mouth open and can hardly imagine it, let alone believe it. It reads like a plot invented under the wrong drugs. And yet I know that it happens in this parallel world across the pond.
@NatureMC I use a "what would a mafia boss do" framework to understand how these guys operate.
They need a legal framework before they can shake down cities using the legal system.
@sewblue I understand, thanks!
