Botanical mystery: I bought a hanging houseplant a few months ago. It’s very cute. But I can’t remember what it is, and now it’s flowering little purple tubes and I’m even more confused. I’m pretty sure it’s a Hoya wax plant, but there are a ton of species and varieties and none of them look like this.
Does anyone here recognize my mystery plant?
@alexwild I'm better at plant ID on Western edibles, but does this one sound like what you've got? https://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/aeschynanthus_radicans.htm
For future reference, what helps with keying out plants is whether leaves are opposite or alternate or whorled. I can't quite tell from the photo. It's otherwise a nice photo, though!
@ml Aha! That’s it. Opposite leaves. Thanks!
@alexwild Good to know.
I didn't recognize it, but I used it on Google Images and it makes suggestions. Then I can use what I know of keying/botany to screen out stuff that's not possible...leaving the candidates.
Top Tropicals, however, is a nursery I've ordered from before. They carry cool stuff.
@alexwild
I think it's Lipstickplant. Or Aeschynanthus radicans Jack

@alexwild btw, I make a pretty sweet hanging planter.
