@chu - Don't question spending money on bikes. I just turned 65. If I'd spent all the money I've spent in my life on #bicycles on a single motor vehicle, nobody would have questioned it. People *go into debt* to buy cars that cost more than I've spent on any single purchase in my life except a house, and that's considered normal!

Funny story for you. When I was working way off from where the subway line ended, I would take my bike on the subway, go to the end of the line, then bike the rest of the way (about 13km). I eventually got myself a really nice road bike. I figured all the money I was saving not owning a car made it easy to justify and I really wanted this nice road bike.
When my dad asked me how much I spent on this bike, he nearly burst a vein. He said "you spent what? You could have gotten a used car for that" and I was like "sure... but I don't want a used car. I wanted a nice bike".
Some people will just never get it.
