@BlackAzizAnansi The reaction to Walt Mossberg’s cold hard assessment of the user experience on Mastodon (which is not the fediverse, but a good slice of it) suggests that some big change in attitude is needed, to stop using complexity and friction to gatekeep people.
@BlackAzizAnansi Just to add that I enjoy it here but I’ve found people on Bluesky or even mutuals on Twitter who’ve found the experience here to be incredibly hard work, and bailed; and that’s the fellow users, not the technology.
It seems to me that if you’re not like me (a middle-aged white man), this place can be incredibly hard work. Take one wrong turn and you’ll have no fun and get sea-lioned constantly (and that’s without racism and misogyny).
@kevinteljeur @BlackAzizAnansi
Where's this cold hard assessment of Mastodon? I can't see it on his account?
@negative12dollarbill @BlackAzizAnansi It was in conversation with others, he was questioning the way it works and why it couldn’t be easier.
@kevinteljeur @BlackAzizAnansi
And then he deleted it so it's impossible for you to link to it?
@negative12dollarbill @BlackAzizAnansi I was just making an observation on the conversation between a few people I follow, in my timeline. I have no idea if he deleted it. I have no idea if it’s impossible for me to link to it.
@kevinteljeur @negative12dollarbill @BlackAzizAnansi The subtext of this conversation is so on the nose it’s hilarious, and a really good example of how Mastodon is hard to use. And I’m saying this as one of those “weird nerds”.
