WELCOME TO DISCONNECT
It’s official: I’m starting a newsletter! After seven years of throwing rocks at Silicon Valley as a freelancer, I’m going direct to my readers.
If you want a critical perspective on the tech industry, it’s time to subscribe!
To kick things off, I wanted to give people an idea of how I think about the tech industry.
Silicon Valley surrounds itself with narratives of progress and dreams of grand futures to distract us from the harms it causes in the present. Let’s talk about them.

I enjoy freelancing, but the effort of pitching, fighting to defend my perspective, and chasing up payments has gotten to be too much. I have a long list of topics I’ve wanted to write about, but have struggled to place, so a newsletter seems like a natural step.
For the first month, everything will be free so you can get a feel for what Disconnect will be. But to continue this work, I will need support from my readers. I hope you’ll consider subscribing and joining me on this new adventure!

Is adding a toot button easy to do here? Not that I am suggesting you should, I'm just wondering if there's a barrier to entry here.
@liminoid_space Those kinds of prompts are all determined by Substack. They have no option to add Mastodon at the moment.
@parismarx signed up!
@parismarx Well, the first thing you could do is tell us how to Unsubscribe from your substack if we decide we. don't want it. Because I hit 'unsubscribe' in the invitation email and all I get is 'stop emails.' No—I want to Unsubscribe completely.
@shaunyata As far as I understand, “Turn off emails” is unsubscribe. https://support.substack.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059788812-How-do-I-unsubscribe-from-a-free-subscription-
