In “The Americans” this old Russian handler lady, named Claudia, made a stew called Zharkoye and, from what she said, it was the same thing my Polish grandmother would make a couple times each winter. So delicious. So i decided to hunt down a recipe and it’s cooking now. House smells fantastic. Gonna mack hard.

Rye flour soup with egg? So strange for me to think *that* as something special, it’s such a staple. It was always that disappointing boring soup that grandmas or cafeterias would serve.
Bonus points for balls of pepper in there that you pick out so as not to accidentally crunch on.
