I started working full time supporting and caring for trans youth a year ago today. And it was that night that I decided to finish this tattoo, which started as just a candle, by marking the meaning of this day on my skin forever.

I work in faith for the day when we are “none of us ashes, all of us flames.” I work to keep alive every single damn one of us I can. I work to make a world where we can imagine our brightness shining and beautiful and known without fear. And I carry the “book of our names” in my heart, adding names each year. One day, I will be able to close the tome and never need to write another one down because we will all be able to speak our names loud and free.

Yes, I'm transgender - but that's just one part of my life history. I'm a whole person, more than that; I have an amazing partner, I'm fascinated by geology and palaeontology, I love classical music and prog rock, I'm a sci-fi geek, and on most weeks I see a lot more sheep and cattle than I do people - and I like it that way. Don't get me wrong, I love my fam and my colleagues and I love spending time with them, but I'm definitely a country mouse.
