Some men's short program thoughts: if you use the same music as someone else, you should be penalized. In a field of 30, there should not be 2 skates to "Natural" by Imagine Dragons and 3 to the same Stromae song. At least the Stromae song was good, and in the way of compulsories, you could very easily see who performed and embodied the music and choreography better, but THREE of your 30 competitors using the same cut of the same song in the same phase of competition at the highest level of your sport is embarrassing. #WorldFigure

As the third and final day of competition for #worldfigure #Montreal2024 begins, I've been thinking a bit about the problem of bias in judged sports. The ISU has long faced accusations of bias for or against particular skaters or countries, and in the past, those accusations were actually proven. The ca. 2000 changes from the old "6.0 system" to the IJS were measures to both make judging fairer by construction and also make collusion among judges more difficult and less impactful.
