36 days of type on the Fediverse
Please boost if you’re a designer or artist
You probably know 36 Days of Type, if you don’t is “a project that invites designers, illustrators and visual artists to express their unique interpretation of the letters and numbers of the Latin alphabet”. So every year they drop a calendar and each character is assigned to a day. People will share their interpretation of that character on Instagram using specific hashtags and tagging the project’s @. They share an handpicked selection of the shared works, however it is not a contest, more like a festival if you want.
However, the concept is extremely interesting and fun but it mainly takes place on Instagram, I think it is natural to think it would be great to partecipate also on the Fediverse, using the same official calendar. And who knows, maybe one day the curators of the project will officially embrace Fediverse
Ok, the thing is, to make this real we can’t only rely on hashtags because you know, federation doesn’t show all the contents for everyone. The best thing we can do is to use Group accounts.
Group accounts will boost every post with the group’s @, and there are some Fediverse services allowing that
Guppe groups is quite easy, however there’s not way to moderate it or to retrieve complete flow of boost from a single source (which is important if we want to build a complete gallery of the artworks)
Friendica groups look almost like Facebook groups, except they work across the Fediverse and they can be moderated
Lemmy communities are like Reddit subreddits, they works with the whole Fediverse but the way federation is implemented is somehow unclear sometimes.
Personally I think Friendica groups is the best option but maybe someone with a better understanding of federated groups can share their opinion.
However there’s contest calendar isn’t out yet, so we have time to prepare even for this year’s edition. Can we make it?
