Tasmania's state of play: the toss-up seat, the minister's challenge, and Labor's long shot
By Adam Langenberg
All eyes will be on whether the Liberals can flip Lyons on election night, but could there be other surprising contests in Tasmania? Labor is hoping for a Braddon surge, while one of its ministers could be looking over her shoulder.

28 page booklet (for curious printers, this includes the covers)
from independent candidate for #Flinders (former safe seat of greg rhymes-with) currently held by zoe mckenzie for #Lib party — all i could learn about her last election, beyond her party affiliation, was the skeezy (truly creepy) old bloke handing out how to vote cards said <she’s so pretty>.
she sends a fridge magnet calendar out, and has not actively done as much damage as greg <privatised medicine is so efficient and world class> rhymes-with, so far as i can tell
anyways… independent candidate booklet is yellow background, liberal blue type. content is moderately reasonable. 3 things in his favour: he is not proudly right wing, he is not proudly liberal, he is not proudly labor
also in letter box, 4 page pamphlet, yellow background, black ink, tone is <<warning warning danger will robinson>> “7 facts about ben smith and the teal independents”
the aim, obvs, is to taint ben’s chances by aligning him with teals, funded by simon holmes à court, teals vote with greens, are weak on security, want higher taxes, want to change australia day, support the voice, and voting teal risks a minority labour greens teal government.
how’s this for a scare: “Despite youth crime in victoria reaching a 15 year high last year, The Independent for Flinders Facebook group which promotes Ben Smith has posted online about the (bold type) fallacy of increased youth crime (end bold)
illustrations include headshots of adam bandt, greens leader, looking like he would pick a fight in an empty house, and one of anthony albanese, labor leader, looking

Bernie Sanders trying to fool us again
@thejuicemedia This isn’t just a bad bill; it’s a betrayal of Australian voters. These changes were rushed through Parliament without proper scrutiny, debate, or transparency. The biggest changes to electoral laws in 40 years deserved a multi-party inquiry, not backroom deals.
It’s clear: the major parties are more interested in protecting their duopoly than serving the people. This is why we need strong, independent voices in Parliament, voices that aren’t beholden to corporate donors or party machines.

If we elect a hung parliament, voters are sending a message that can't be ignored
By Sabra Lane
Voters have demonstrated they're not afraid of creating a bit of political disruption to the major parties.

#Republicans, #Democrats, #Independents - #Trump expects us all to lay down while he steamrolls over our lives and liberties. Fuck that, and fuck him.
For years, "politics" was defined as "the art of compromise."
But if the other side refuses to compromise, you don't need to either.
Tell them you're willing to negotiate, but wait to see what happens.
About 250 more Democratic members of Congress, and their caucuses, need to take actions, and not just spew words or deliver none at all, in direct confrontational defiance of the Trump administration.
From my perspective, I have no interest in blocking or anything else, we have a lot in common.
#Democrats , #Uncommitted disaffected #Republicans , #Independents , #Libertarians I really don't care other than we need to pull back from the #authoritarian fringe.
Too many labels, not enough #collaboration
Remember how @govtimwalz upended the whole campaign using the single word "Weird" to summarize everything wrong with Trump/Vance?
Now, the word that should be blasted from every #progressive #democrat constantly is #RECKLESS
That's exactly the word for the cuts at USAID, spending freeze, jobs buyout, tariffs, high cost of living, and lost jobs for Americans. It's one thing #liberals, #independents, and #conservatives can agree on. RECKLESS RECKLESS RECKLESS
#USpolitics #LeopardsAteMyFace
Democracy has to evolve or die, which we see happening in the terminal autocratic disease infecting the USA. Our best shot for an evolutionary leap is the rise of the #independents in the next election. Ordinary Australians sick of the ineffectual duopoly will not chose a destroyer but will choose creators, unaffiliated reformers and representative of their people who will actually make us a true #democracy

Before helping my local independent candidate, #AllegraSpender, with her successful 2022 election campaign, I volunteered for another independent in 2018, which was my first week in politics! #auspol #independents

"Whining while offering no solutions (or *sane* solutions)" may work with Right Wingers & #MAGAts, but not with #Democrats or #Independents. #WeirdGOP
@RaymondPierreL3
I hate to say it but a chance would be a fine thing when it comes to #AlboPM going the attack.
What would be hilarious & I’d love it, is for both parties to be really badly reduced by #Independents & the #Greens.
I never used to feel that way as I was very much for #Labor, but my position has certainly shifted. #AusPol
