As a small child my mother would sometimes treat me with a pack of Kool Aid with sugar mixed in and I would stick my finger in the packet and lick the mixture off. Needless to say, my finger would be red along with my mouth. I recall this because in my memory, I climbed a tree outside our house to enjoy the treat. I'm sure that it was red Kool Aid because after all, red is my favorite flavor. This memory must be from the mid-50s in Oakland, California.
"Kool-Aid has been around since 1927! It was invented by Edwin Perkins in Hastings, Nebraska. Originally, it was created as a powdered version of a liquid concentrate called Fruit Smack to reduce shipping costs. The name was later changed from "Kool-Ade" to "Kool-Aid" in 1934" - Copilot
