The long sides are held by bolts in a typical flat pack furniture joint. This is normally fine and strong enough, although ideally there should be a half moon washer/nut instead of just a regular hex nut.

However, the bolts are too long, bottoming out in the hole and forcing the side and leg apart instead of clamping them together.

Fixed with a long drill bit, making room for the tip of the bolt.

Must've come from the CBA furniture factory! :)

The corner of a table support. Square profile leg is glued to the short side with a mortise and tenon. The long side has a bolt through the leg that ends in a pocket with a hex nut barely visible. However, the bolt is already hitting the other side of the hole without even being fully inserted into the leg.

Now the other side. Dry join, you can see where I dug the pins out that obviously couldn't hold a table leg, see elongated holes.

The other two holes below the mortise are from where someone tried to patch it with an angle bracket and screws. That didn't work either.

Ah well, clamped back together with some PU glue.

A mortise and tenon joint. It's roughly made, probably in a factory, there's torn wood on both parts. The tenon has two small holes, the top very elongated from where pins were unable to hold it against the leverage from the table leg. The leg has two rough holes where the pins were dug out. Two small holes below in a diagonal pattern show where a small angle bracket was screwed to. The inside of the mortar and the tip of the tenon have torn wood on them.

Fixing a table that fell apart as I was moving it around 🙀

Real wood, nice turned legs but the worst joinery, not improved by dodgy attempts at patching it by a previous owner.

For some reason it wasn't glued, just pinned and I had to dig the pins out, doing further damage. What a waste.

Perhaps the factory was out of glue that day. Reminds me of an old DDR joke.

My (not quite) boyfriend just stopped by while I'm on quarantine to drop off a pair of earrings he made for me! They match my longboard, and they're so dope—I absolutely love them!

He handed them to me in a tiny white takeout box with a little metal wire handle. I put them on, and then we both just stood there on my front porch blushing at each other like highschool kids (kids still blush these days, right?) for like 20 minutes.

God, he's so adorable 😍

🇬🇧 I let myself get caught up in the nostalgia of the first StarWars by preparing a multifunction tray featuring the most emblematic ship in the franchise: the Millennium Falcon.

The inspiration came to me while browsing Pinterest while preparing for a role-playing session, and I thought it looked cool. As usual, I started with a manual vectorization session, followed by 3D rendering. A few dozen minutes of machining, a bit of finishing and a big painting session later, I got what you see.

I call it a multi-purpose tray because the slots can hold a glass, a cup, treats, tokens or even a dice tray. And I have to admit, I like the idea of versatility. What do you think?

🇫🇷 Ça y est, j'ai craqué ! Je me suis laissé prendre par la nostalgie des premiers StarWars en préparant un plateau multifonctions à l'effigie du plus emblématique des vaisseaux de la franchise : Le Faucon Millenium (ou Millenium Condor selon les sensibilités).

L'inspiration m'est venue en parcourant Pinterest alors que je préparai une session de jeu de rôle et je me suis dit qu'il était sympa. Comme d'habitude, j'ai commencé par une session de vectorisation manuelle puis un rendu 3D. Quelques dizaines de minutes d'usinage, un peu de finition et une grosse session de peinture plus tard, j'ai obtenu ce que vous voyez.

Je parle de plateau multifonctions car les emplacements peuvent accueillir un verre, une tasse, des friandises, des jetons ou bien servir de piste à dés. Et j'avoue que j'aime bien cette idée de polyvalence. Et vous, qu'en pensez-vous ?

Ich habe mich für die Nutklötzchen entschieden, da ich keine Tischklammern hatte. Und zuerst habe ich die Entscheidung bereut, da so einiges schief gegangen ist. Aber der Reihe nach.

Zuerst habe ich die Beine gefast, dann geschliffen, geschliffen und dann noch geschliffen. Für die Nutklötzchen habe ich eine 10er-Nut gewählt, einfach weil ich nur einen 10er-Nutfräser habe. Natürlich habe ich nicht aufgepasst und an einer Stelle habe ich durch die Zarge durchgefräst, weil ich irgendwie die Tiefeneinstellung verdreht hatte. (Na, gut, fahre ich auf dem Heimweg am Baumarkt vorbei und besorge Holzflicken.)

Die ersten Nutklötzchen habe ich zu klein gearbeitet und habe aus einem Stück sägerauen Kantholz größere Klötzchen ausgearbeitet. Dabei wird ein Zapfen ausgesägt und -gestemmt, der in die Nut passt und das Klötzchen selbst wird auf die Tischplatte verleimt. So ist die Tischplatte mit dem Gestell verbunden und fixiert. Die Platte kann aber trotzdem in der Breite quellen und schwinden ohne das Risse entstehen.

Das Verleimen war so semi. Der 1. Versuch ging so gründlich in die Hose. Weder hielt der alte Ponalleim, noch konnte ich genug Kraft auf die Verleimstellen bringen.
Beim Trockenleimen musste ich feststellen, dass meine Schraubzwingen in ihrer Ausladung zu kurz waren, so dass ich keinen Druck senkrecht auf den Punkt ausüben konnte. Daher habe ich mich für Kalksandsteine entschieden und jeweils 4 übereinander gestapelt. Etwas Leim trat aus der Stelle heraus, alles schien prima.
Nach über 1 h Trocknungszeit wollte ich den Tisch drehen und Zack! hatte ich das Gestell in der Hand aber die Platte lag immer noch auf den Böcken.

Ok, der Leim war wohl drüber und zudem sah ich auch, dass der Leim nicht vollflächig wirken konnte. Bedeutet, dass zu wenig Druck auf die 4 Punkte ausgeübt wurde.

Da ich bisher gute Erfahrungen mit Ratschgurten gemacht hatte, überlegte ich mir eine Konstruktion, wie ich auf diese Weise verleimen könnte. Aber wo waren die Ratschgurte?
Gefunden habe ich Zurrgurte und jetzt wollte ich auch kein Risiko mehr Eigehen und nutze diesen neuen Kleber, den ich bestellt hatte: Titebond. Ist das überhaupt ein Leim? Hat eher die Konsistenz einer Bodylotion aber seine lange Verarbeitungszeit nimmt einem dann doch den Stress raus.
