Do you use News Feeds (RSS) in Thunderbird?

(If you do, here's one to add to your list: blog.thunderbird.net/feed/)

@thunderbird@mastodon.online One of the reason why I use Thunderbird!

- Mail
- Contacts
- Calandar
- Feed

All in one app and that for free!
:heart_felix::cool_felix:

@thunderbird@mastodon.online Always! I've tried many apps/client but I always come back to Thunderbird! :heart_felix:

@thunderbird@mastodon.online WAIT! that is a thing I've looked over!

I do use Matrix as my default since some days now, so I should check this out!
:peek_sage:

@thunderbird@mastodon.online Waaa my eyes! The background of the chats do not sync with the themes yet! haha

So far looks promising!
❤️

@cookie @thunderbird You can choose a chat theme separately though. But yeah, it's not a great experience out of the box, especially since changing the chat theme needs a restart.

@freaktechnik@chaos.social @thunderbird@mastodon.online Oh I need to check that out, I sadly also experience issues with sending.. maybe I did do something wrong

@cookie @thunderbird in encrypted rooms you might have to get cross signing working correctly. Does it show that it failed to send the message or does it just never happen?

@thunderbird Always found reading feeds on mobile way easier and practical. Currently using Nextcloud News app.

@thunderbird using a selfhosted RSS feed aggregator that will fetch my feeds in the background and the read / fav status is kept centrally when using multiple devices.

I love Thunderbird for email, but ... please do not feed the feature creep!

While RSS feeds are fine in Thunderbird, I don't use Matrix (often) and actually I don't want this bloat in my email Client!

@thunderbird i've been answering yes and no, not to screw your poll, but because I ve been using rss in thunderbird a lot for years, but not those days (i use external self hosting service).
Anyway having a rss reader out of the box in an android version could be great.

@thunderbird thunderbird is probably the worst place to do that

@thunderbird I really should use RSS more that I do, maybe this is a sign to start.

@thunderbird I'm using my Thunderbird to manage my contacts in my Mint

@thunderbird Wait you can do that? :O I need to try this...

@cozyGalvinism Yep! First set up a new Feed Account, and then you can add all your RSS feeds there with Manage Subscriptions. It'll show up in your folders pane alongside the rest of your email accounts.

@thunderbird This better not be a prelude to removing RSS capability from Thunderbird!

I think they should strip RSS, Calendaring, Encryption, Tasks, Chat, all that stuff out of Thunderbird.

Make them all add-ons and just make Thunderbird a shell.

You want POP3/IMAP? Install the POP3/IMAP "connector".

You want Exchange Active Sync? Install the Exchange Active Sync "connector".

Want a calendar and caldav support? Install the Calendar "connector".

You get the idea.

Strip everything out of Thunderbird except just the shell.

And package and provide everything else as a plugin.

That way development can happen organically among the different plugins and at their own pace.

You sandbox the plugins and you limit the vulnerabilites and effects one plugin can influence the rest of the application too.

@chrisod It absolutely is not! If anything, it's the beginning of a little educational campaign :D

@thunderbird I don't use a computer to check my email anymore. Since Thunderbird is not on mobile I use #fairemail instead. It's the closest to Thunderbird for mobile. I use #feedly on my phone for my RSS.

@thunderbird very sad news today my favorite mobile email app is being discontinued #fairemail thanks to Google's malicious behavior. I liked the ability to block tracking links and photos. I'm keeping the app for now in hopes that someone takes on the project. Does anyone have a good recommended email app for Android?

@chris1223 We're sorry to hear about FairEmail shutting down. Truly, it's a sad day when any open source project ends up this way.

An open-source alternative for Android would be K9.

@thunderbird @chris1223 IMO the Thunderbird team should look at FairEmail as inspiration. Was a clean client that had a lot of privacy respecting features

@thunderbird I can't get k9 to work with my email. I will keep an eye out for the potential of Thunderbird on mobile.

@thunderbird I'm using feedly for my rss feeds and Thunderbird for my mails.

@thunderbird I did, but now I'm using Nextcloud News.

@thunderbird I'm not a heavy RSS user, but I used to subscribe to a few things with Firefox Live Bookmarks. Since those were removed, I now use Thunderbird for those feeds instead.

@faoluin Has your experience been OK with Thunderbird on the News Feed side of things?

@thunderbird Thank you for this information, I am now an RSS reader. 🙂

@Jeqon Awesome! Let us know if you have any feedback.
