It blows my mind it's roughly 50% cheaper to order random wooden parts from China than to drive to local hardware store.

I needed a couple of wooden knobs for my next laser project. 5 days later they are in a parcel machine next to my flat. Acceptable quality for what I need.

Should I feel bad for not supporting local manufacturers? Perhaps. But then I guess similar situation is with electric cas taking Europe by storm.

Hello #lasercutter / #maker community! I'm preparing a stencil right now using #inkscape and I *think* I have everything done correctly, but I'm wondering: are the tools to "lint" my svg before cutting? I'd hope to find something that tells me things like...

* here you have two lines superposed, this will result in a double cut
* here you have a lot of waypoints within 0.1mm of each other, likely won't come out good
* this svg feature is likely not supported by laser cutters

Any pointers? 🙂

Three at Once

If you’ve got a third machine that can make stuff, you really need to get all three machines working at once. So, on New Year’s Day, I revved up the two 3D printers, printing parts for the upcoming steam throttle project. While they were happily layering away, I fired up the laser cutter to make a loom for fencing. I felt ever so productive with the whole workshop running at once, even if most of the time the machines just brood while I do non-train activities.

The resin printer to the left, and the filament printer on the right bracket the laser cutter on the upper level of the workshop. It’s starting to get crowded in the heavy shop!
