Ich hab erst gedacht, ich mache wieder eine schrittweise Cover-Reveal-Aktion wie beim letzten Büchlein, aber ich habe es fertig und ich bin einfach so glücklich darüber!

They went in for luncheon, although Veronica found she was not very hungry, and then went to her room to change into clothes more appropriate for a visit to the town.

There were piles of clothes everywhere.

“I’ve finished adjusting all your clothes and started on the packing,” said Polly as she helped Veronica undress. “I know Switzerland is supposed to be warm in summer like it is here, but it is mountains after all, so I’m packing everything I can think of that you might need.”

“What about you?”

“That won’t take long.”

“But you did get some new clothes for the trip?”

“I did, and some for Ursula should arrive tomorrow.”

She rubbed her eyes. The bad night had left its mark. She was very tired.

Then she noticed her fingers, crusted with something brown, that was also embedded beneath her nails. Using the nail of her left index finger, she scraped at the brittle stuff on her right hand. It came off readily enough but as she worked at it, Polly bustling about preparing her wash basin, Veronica saw with horror her breasts were smeared with the dried on stuff as well.

Wetting her finger she tried to rub it off before Polly noticed. Not only was there too much, she discovered her desperate passion of the night before was the cause: she had dug her nails so hard into her breasts she had broken the skin and caused herself to bleed.

Then Polly said: ‘Oh.’

Daria’s voice brought back the memories of the previous night and Miralees froze. Then she realised she was naked, and on top of the covers.

_Blessed mother, what have I done?_

The bed moved. Miralees felt the other woman’s hands coming down either side of her then Daria’s lips touched her shoulder. An uncontrollable shiver ran through her.

Miralees felt Daria’s breath at her ear. “You have to get up and dressed.”

Then she was gone again and there were sounds of her moving about in the other room.

Miralees sat up on the side of the bed facing the wall and hidden from most of the other room. The memories of her enjoyment pressed in on her.

She climbed out of the bed and went to the window. Standing off to the side in shadow just to be sure her nakedness was hidden.

The masts, spars and rigging of the ships in dock made tangled silhouettes against the dawn sky. There was activity on one along the harbour, perhaps it had just come in, or was readying to set sail.

She felt the tingle of Eftena’s magic against her skin before the goddess’s arm encircled her waist and her head leaned against Miralees’ shoulder.

They stood silently for a while watching the light grow, finally casting enough to make the decks of the ships visible. Sailors emerged from hatches and others went inside as the watches changed.

Miralees felt as if she could stay here forever.
