🚨 #WintermuteBBS - that's my second, #Linux based #BBS running the #MBSEBBS software - is now #back #online !

I've updated MBSE BBS to the latest version 1.1.0 (this is a pre-release but I don't mind) and purged quite a bunch of inactive users.

There will be smaller updates and changes throughout the next weeks, as some of the #rss #feeds no longer work and will either be updated or removed (most likely the latter) .

With the code to support plain #ASCII terminals being rewitten in this new release, I will try to rework some of the ASCII screens - but this is may take some time.

Most of you may know me for the #rc2014bbs "RC-BOX BBS" which I have been promoting throughout the fediverse recently.

However, my nickname originates from my other, older BBS, the "Wintermute BBS" which I started back in 2009 and which is still up and running.

It's a #linux based #bulletinboard #bbs running the #mbsebbs software.

It's a bi-lingual system, supported languages are english and german (system messages and menus are available in either language).

It's currently connected to good old FIDOnet and BBSnet (further networks are being prepared, e.g. amiganet).

The filebase features some #commodore stuff and file-echos are also being prepared right now.

There are some more commodities: I've got a selection of old DOS doorgames and some Infocom games to play for you.

To keep you informed about the latest news, there's the "Newsroom" with a selection of german and english RSS feeds to read.

Maybe you want to drop by sometime?!

When it comes to classic, text/console based #bulletinboard software, many people go with either Synchronet or Mystic and a few of us (like me) maybe use #mbsebbs - this makes the BBS experience somewhat ... "routine".

However, there are several alternatives to those commonly known programs. One of them, BBBS, was developed in the 1990s and is still sold as #shareware and in active development!

The latest binaries (10th June, 2021) are available for 64/32 bit Linux and Windows as well as for the #RaspberryPiOS (*not* getting any provision, just that you know)

So if you think about running a #bbs and want to join echo networks like #fidonet or #amiganet you may take a look at this impressive program suite which also supports html and ftp frontends/access.
