Quick update on my NAS experience with OpenMediaVault... just wanted to drop a few notes as I dig into TrueNAS Scale in the coming weeks.

@awinkler Also ich benutze #OpenMediaVault auf irgendeiner Blechdose mit Festplatten drin.
Mit etwas Glück, kann man irgendwo einen alten HP ProLiant MicroServer abgreifen, dann hat man erst mal ausgesorgt. Ich fahre seit mehr als 10 Jahren einen N54L. Der geht nicht kaputt. Darum kostet der heute genauso viel wie damals.

Deux serveurs #OpenMediaVault 7
Un hpe microserver gen10 plus principal 4*2to raid5 boot sur un SSD depuis une carte qm2 Qnap.
Un deuxième OMV sur un Qnap ts-253ab(transformé en OMV) 2*2to + boot SSD 256 go pour les données sensibles du premier en rsync .
J'ai un nextcloud sur ma plateforme yunohost qui assure mon Mail avec xmpp.
Mes données sont sur le serveur hpe
C'est juste pour l'accès au données
Soit en webdav à distance pour les rsync des mobiles
Soit en smb ou afp en local
Soit en nextcloud à distance pour les photos.
Soit symfonium pour la zique Auto android
Soit jellyfin en général.

Je suis parti pour ajouter un #NAS #DIY à ma petite infra perso pour accueillir ces backups.
Ce sera sur une base de debian avec un SSD système auquel j'aimerai bien ajouter un #RAID5 pour les données.
Je veux un système simple à mettre ne place et robuste.
De ce que j'ai vu #openmediavault sait très bien faire ça en quelques clics. Donc il me tente pas mal.
Ensuite, je me dis que pour avoir des perfs convenables, les backups pourraient se faire comme ça:

Tänään opittu pinnaamaan debiaaniin uutta softaa. Pikkunassissa pyörii openmediavault. Toki torjuntaa pitää olla ja kun huomasin että clamavista olisi tuoreempikin versio niin pitihän se laittaa eikä edes kone hajonnut.
Kattelin jo vähän että pitäiskö Hyprlandia debiaaniin... siinä ainakin sais pinnata ja väsätä. Mutta nou. Fedora on hyvä.

@thechrisdantes mine's an old PC that I've salvaged. Got rid of #windows10 since its eol is coming up and slapped #openmediavault on it. So far I've successfully gotten #nextcloud and #audiobookshelf to work. Still working on my #arrs.
What are your #openmediavault and #docker resources for installing #arrs and #qbittorrent?
Apparently #OpenMediaVault forgot to renew their URL on openmediavault dot org. Which gets pinged for software updates.
Maaan, I don't have the energy to transition to TrueNAS right now if this software gets maliciously taken over...

@davemq I should also point out that my use-case was to develop a setup for #PaperlessNGX that would both work as a local setup in podman, and allow me to upload the resulting compose file to Portainer on #OpenMediaVault. So a SystemD solution would not have worked there. But I'm always interested in learning new things

Mit #OpenMediaVault erreiche ich jetzt genau den Zustand, den ich mir eigentlich von #Nextcloud erhofft hatte: 12 GB Mediendaten geschrieben und das Hostsystem zuckt nur müde mit den Schultern.
Just moved 4 #RAID-ed drives from a physical 2-core #NAS to one of my #ProxMox servers into a VM running #OpenMediaVault. The old #SAMBA shares have been recreated, the docker service running #PsiTransfer restarted, and everything is working.
Phew!
#Nextcloud ist mit seinem virtual File Sync einfach zu langsam.
Wenn ich meine Mediathek (<300 GB) von #Apple aus dem Internet exportiere, braucht es eine halbe Ewigkeit, bis der Desktop-Client das auf den Server gesynced hat und die Dateien auf dem Gerät wieder freigegeben hat.
Bis dahin ist mir die Platte vollgelaufen und der Export bricht mit einem Fehler ab.
Ich teste jetzt mal #OpenMediaVault, in der Hoffnung, damit weiterzukommen.

Safely at home behind a NAT but reachable over Tailscale for SMB shares and a reverse proxy on an Oracle VPS for NextCloud.
This was hell. I can't believe I actually made it work.
so once i re-learned a bunch of Unix / Linux user things to allow for actually downloading the cert over FTP.... the #YUNOHost local install is working.
The questions are now: what will i move from the #OpenMediaVault and what will i keep. Calibre-Web and Vaultwarden will move, they, and their cert issues, are the reason I set this up.
YUNOHost doesn't have Plex though, and that may be an issue.
