I want a
stable environment where I will put a relatively expensive NAS and maybe some
other Zima boards. 2. I also want to try new versions and configurations in an
env where I can break stuff BEFORE trying things on my Production environment. I
would also like to use that environment to try other things like playing with
Kubernetes, Docker, Iceberg, etc. I am a backend software engineer so this is
very useful to me. Besides being fun. So, I am just trying to gather ideas on
how to configure this both in terms of software and hardware.
Holy lord why did this take me so long to get nextcloud docker with a subdirectory root.
So I have had nextcloud selfhosted on a VM in a subdirectory as the root. That had taken me some time to get working. I'm now wanting to merge that into my docker host which uses nginx-proxy. The example configs were enough to get me running with "/" as root but I had the hardest time getting it to work in a subdirectory. There were a myriad number of discussions on how to do this for various setups but none was outright evident for my use.
Here are the key environment variables that need to be addtionally added to make it work in a subdirectory with nextcloud:apache and nginx-proxy:
- OVERWRITEPROTOCOL=https
- OVERWRITEWEBROOT=/my-nc-subdir
- VIRTUAL_PATH=/my-nc-subdir
- VIRTUAL_DEST=/
The last three are critical to getting it up and the protocol variable gets you past an issue with login not redirecting property after submit.

Letztlich haben wir uns für einen "NiPoGi GK3 Plus" Mini-PC entschieden. Dessen Leistung sollte für die nächsten 1-2 Jahre und unsere ersten ernsthaften #selfhost Erfahrungen reichen.

Success!!! I've migrated Immich from an x86 Debian system to Asahi Fedora on an M1 Mac Mini.
Installing Fedora was easy
Installing Docker was easy.
Installing Tailscale was super simple.
Installing and setting up CSF was easy, but only because I had notes from last time on how to make Docker and Tailscale cooperate.
Migrating the Immich database was a nightmare!! I think because my old system was a mishmash of legacy settings from 100+ releases ago... Also, my old system wasn't on the very newest release, which in itself made migration fail initially.
So, I try to #SelfHost AI software and 
. My old AMD Graphic card is not compatible so I decided to buy a newer one #nividia for maximum compatibility. But... for AI:
The best one is prohibitedly expensive;
the second best one is not being sold new nor used;
the third best one is prohibitedly expensive and you can only find it used.
So I bough the 4ISH place best GPU (RTX 5080). Now the problem is that the software is not compatible for being too new. Couldn't make it work on Docker nor with Python pip. I guess I'll wait.

query the database. Currently, the tables (excluding system logs) use 6GB of the
80GB on my Ionos VPS, with the VPS having 50GB free space total. In the far
future, when that 50GB starts to run out, are there any cheap storage services
out there that support a filesystem or a database? Due to querying the data so
rarely, read speed isn’t that big a deal, and if the storage is on HDD, so be
it.
#ActualBudget with SimpleFin bridge integration has been working mostly fine for me... Except that
1) vanguard often doesn't sync successfully and needs re-auth
2) apple card sync never worked after syncing once......
3) the envelope budgeting just doesn't work for me. Like I front load my retirement accounts, so I don't have income for a few months, and Actual budget will just freak out because I'm over budgeting every month 
It's ok because I only have retirement accounts with vanguard so I'm not gonna look at it all the time and I have very few transactions on Apple Card at the moment...
