Although this is a dumpster fire of a day, we did launch our final project of the term in my Intro to Public History class: a project proposing/revising historical markers in our area.

Students got themselves into two groups based around themes of their choice. They'll work to develop their theme into a "big idea" for an alternative historical tour.

Every student will propose a new marker, or a revision to a current marker, and the groups will frame their set of markers as a tour. We'll then create those tours digitally (probably using ArcGIS Story Maps for ease of use).

at an uni:
yesterday we had a power outage in the lab during a practical course. We checked everything twice, called supervisors, called an electrician. Then I noticed that one of the students had put a cable on a heating plate and it melted 🫠
They had the nerve to ask if that meant we wouldn't finish on time.

We have a half day with students today to make up for the late night yesterday for conferences.

One more afternoon of parent conferences before walking out for 10 days to enjoy spring break.

2 more hours to go for parent teacher conferences this evening. I've been fortunate to have some very good conversations with parents, some of which needed to happen, others which were just genuinely pleasant conversations.

Students, in some cases, spend more time with me each week than their parents and that is a responsibility I do not take lightly.

I can't believe I'm actually pissed that I get free time instead of my 8th grade block this morning. I didn't check the schedule and they have puberty ed. I had just started talking about the Iranian Revolution, and I also planned to do part of my 'time change through Star Trek opening titles' lesson. Boooooooo. #teaching

Full day of teaching followed by day 1 of spring parent-teacher conferences. So, today is a 13 hour day, but tomorrow is a half day for students so we can round out grades before spring break.

This ⤵️ is what has happened to British people under successive governments!

The teaching of history in schools has been designed largely to airbrush out *any* references to the often grim reality behind Britain’s behaviour during its globe-spanning, resource-extracting imperialist past!

“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their own history”

Tests in 4 of 5 classes today.

Quiet day overall. Need to apologize to a class for losing my temper yesterday and own up to not remaining professional in front of them.

We'll wrap up the unit tomorrow before heading into a much needed spring break.
