"Nakagin Capsule Tower"

Rendering of the Nakagin Capsule Tower Building in Tokyo’s Shimbashi district as it appeared just before its disassembly in 2022.

Designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa, the mixed-use residential / office building was a rare surviving example of the Japanese Metabolism movement. Erected in 1972, the individual housing units were designed to be separated from the building for off-site repair, refurbishment, or replacement. Unfortunately, this process was never undertaken, leading to the slow degradation of the structure.

Modeled and rendered in Blender, textured in Substance Painter.

"Brodie Helmet"

WWI era, aka the “Tommy” helmet or “doughboy”, modelled and rendered in Blender. The insignia on the front is from the 17th Indian Division, which was stationed in Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq).

"Zero-G Autonomous Stationkeeping Drone".

Finally completed @ArtFromRachel@mastodon.art 's excellent icosphere tutorial at Creative Shrimp. I thought that the result looked like an autonomous drone used for stationkeeping in low-gravity environments, so that’s how I textured it. I learned a great deal in the process: Rachel's work is always strongly recommended. Blender was used for modelling and Cycles for rendering, with significant contributions from HardOps and Substance Painter.

"Victorian British Royal Navy Captain’s Telescope"

In this work I wanted to concentrate on surfacing and distressing. This was my first serious foray into Substance, layering dirt, smudges and scratches on the telescope’s brass, glass and wood.

The engraving near the eyepiece is a tribute to my maternal grandfather, a captain in the Dutch Merchant Marine. I also used Blender's Compositor to add a tiny bit of anamorphic lens glare to the Cycles X render.

I just finished streaming the #movie #Thelma (2024) which was named the the best #InterGenerationalFilm by the #AARP during it's #MoviesForGrownUps award show that just aired last night.

#JuneSquibb who plays the lead was nominated for #BestMovieActress but lost to #DemiMoore in #Substance who won that award.

The movie is about a #Senior #Woman who gets scammed on the #Net & takes it's upon herself to get her $ back. There was a gun involved but think of it as the #Beekeeper without any killing. LOL! 😉

It's a delightful movie which portrays the #elderly in a truthful but respectful & amusing light & also speaks to the #intergenerational #wisdom & support that #seniors can provide to the young.

"Not Out"

While it took considerable effort to work out the right “recipe” to portray the ultra-fine curly hair on the surface of a new tennis ball in Blender, I’m quite pleased with the result.

The tennis court material is derived from Substance, with PhotoShop used to integrate the paint line. The initial output of that process was far lower resolution than I expected, but became a “happy accident”, producing a pleasant depth-of-field effect without setting focus.

#substance is a movie trying to « critique » beauty standards by repeating them and adding some scenes of two women or two sides of a woman being brutal to each other, ending in death. i’m disgusted and bored for two and a half hours. had little laugh at the audacity. 1/10.
